Leader praises Majlis for firm stances on intl. issues
The current parliament has positively coordinated its activities with the administration, Ayatollah Khamenei told MPs in a meeting here on Tuesday.
It is necessary to cooperate with the fundamentalist government that believes in the principles of the revolution and is very active in serving the people, rather than to weaken it, he added.
The devotion of MPs to the less privileged socioeconomic strata, the efforts to solve people’s problems, and the adoption of a logical stance opposed to the forces of global arrogance are some of the notable characteristics of the seventh Majlis, he stated.
The performance of the Majlis has been satisfactory during the past three years, the Leader observed.
He also lauded MPs for their appropriate efforts to implement Article 44 of the Constitution, specifically their decision to establish a special committee for this purpose, he said.
Ayatollah Khamenei issued an executive order on July 5 calling for privatization of state companies as envisaged by Article 44 of the Constitution.
By seriously supporting the committee, a strong law can be passed on implementation of Article 44, the Leader added.
After the seventh parliament was inaugurated, certain ignorant people raised some tense issues that were against the Islamic system’s laws, but the people chose this Majlis, and this shows their love of Islamic morals and the revolution’s values, he stated.
The Majlis has logically and clearly spoken for the Iranian nation on various issues, and this is very valuable, he said.
Another positive point of the parliament is the fact that MPs have avoided issues that cause tension and discord in society, he added.
The stance that the Majlis adopted on the nuclear issue which obligated the administration to stand firm on its position was an appropriate decision that was in the country’s interests, he pointed out.
Some are opposed to the coordination between the administration and the Majlis, and they say that the Majlis and the administration have been manipulated to become homogeneous, whereas this Majlis was established through the people’s choice, and the people have also chosen the president, he observed.
Moreover, it is not a shortcoming for the parliament and the administration to act in harmony but a privilege because the two branches of the government can pursue similar objectives through cooperation, he explained.
MPs should be committed to the country’s essential needs while avoiding factional, ethnic, and regional prejudices during the remainder of their term in office, the Leader said.
